Ancient Mount Thakurani Tilla, Paschim Pilak, Tripura Thakurani Tilla is an ancient mound located at Paschim Pilak in South Tripura district, about 91 km from the state capital, Agartala. The complete plan of the brick-built temples was revealed after four seasons of excavations. Excavations uncovered nine small temples constructed with mud mortar, two rectangular in plan and the remaining seven, square. A significant discovery is a colossal image of Surya found installed in the westernmost temple, depicted standing and holding lotuses in both hands. Another important find includes a circular sandstone pitha with a square socket and a miniature crystal votive lingam discovered in one of the smaller shrines. Other antiquities recovered from the site include iron, copper, and ceramic fragments. Based on the excavated remains, the site is dated to the circa 10th–13th century CE.
