Sainik Schools Society (SSS) is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India. The Society runs Sainik Schools. Sainik Schools are English medium residential schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Sainik Schools prepare Cadets to join the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla (Pune), Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and other Training Academies for officers. At present there are a total of 33 Sainik Schools across the country. Sainik Schools offer admission at the level of Class VI and Class IX. Admission is based on the performance of candidates in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE). The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India an independent/autonomous, self-reliant and self-sustained premier testing organization. NTA conducts the All-India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) for admission to Class VI and Class IX in Sainik Schools across the country, for every academic year. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) approves Sainik Schools in the country and the schools function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society. Admission to the Sainik School stream of Class VI and Class IX of the Sainik Schools for every academic year is through AISSEE. Date of exam Generally during January of every year. Admission for girls is open for Class VI, subject to availability of vacancies. Age criteria is same as boys as detailed in the Information Bulletin. Eligibility for admission to Class IX Candidate should be between 13 and 15 years as on March of the admission year and should have passed Class VIII, from a recognised school, at the time of admission. Admission for girls is open for Class IX, subject to the availability of vacancies.
