CIL-IMiN Fellowship Program The CIL-IMiN (Innovation in Mining 4.0) Fellowship Program 2026 is an initiative under the Innovation in Mining 4.0, Centre of Excellence (CoE) at TEXMiN, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in collaboration with Coal India Limited (CIL). The program is designed to promote student-led innovation, applied research, and technology development in the mining and allied sectors. The fellowship aims to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world mining challenges by encouraging Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) students to work on industry-relevant problem statements aligned with the Mining 4.0 vision. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge domains such as AI-driven mining, digital twins, autonomous systems, sustainable mineral processing, green mining technologies, and advanced safety systems. Fellowship Highlights Work on real-world mining challenges with CIL Domains: AI, Robotics, Digital Twins, Sustainability, Mining 4.0 & more Monthly Fellowship: ₹10,000 (UG) | ₹12,500 (PG) Project contingency grant up to ₹1 lakh Opportunity to collaborate with CIL/CMPDI teams Fellowship Structure & Benefits Duration: 12 months UG Fellowship: ₹10,000 per month PG Fellowship: ₹12,500 per month Contingency Grant: Up to ₹1,00,000 per project (based on requirement) Continuation of fellowship is subject to periodic performance review Project Scope Students will work in the domain aligned with CIL/IMiN/TEXMiN across the mining value chain, including (but not limited to): AI and Data Analytics in Mining Digital Twin Technologies Autonomous Mining & Robotics Sustainable and Green Mining Deep Mining Technologies Exploration to Extraction Technologies Advanced Safety Systems Industry Exposure Selected fellows during their summer and winter vacation, may be deputed (with mutual consent) to: Coal India Limited (CIL) Headquarters or its subsidiaries NaCCER (CMPDI) This provides hands-on exposure to real mining operations and industry challenges. Mentorship & Monitoring Each student need to choose a mentor: A faculty mentor from IIT (ISM) Each selected student will be guided by: An industry expert from Coal India Limited Faculty mentor from IIT (ISM) Students will be required to submit periodic progress reports and a final technical report. High-impact projects may be considered for further development, pilot implementation, or incubation under TEXMiN.
