Online Short-Term Internship Programme The National Human Rights Commission is mandated to generate awareness for the protection and promotion of Human Rights, vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. With a view to spread awareness among University students about the need for protection and promotion of Human Rights, the Commission has been regularly conducting Internship Programmes since 1998. For the Month of September, 2026, a two-week “Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI) – September, 2026” will commence from 14th to 25th September, 2026. Applications are invited from eligible students across the country. Eligibility and selection criteria will be as follows:a) Students studying in 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5 year PG Course;b) Students studying in 3rd/ final year of a graduation course;c) Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate degree course (also applicable to the students in three year LL.B programme);d) Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate diploma course;e) Students who are research scholars in any stream. Students must have attained a minimum of 60% marks in Class-XII and in the first 4 Semesters of graduation course/ five-year integrated course. The calculated percentage has to be mentioned clearly from their CGPA/ SGPA along with the formula for percentage obtained. Failure to do either of it would result in rejection of the application form. A 250 words write-up on the topic “Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship” will be required to be submitted by the applicants online along with the application form which will also serve as a basis of selection. Students who have research potential in the areas relating to human rights will be preferred (to be indicated in the write-up). The students may also include the details of co-curricular activities, Moot Courts, Internships, research projects for strengthening their application. Attested photocopies of mark-sheets for Class-X, Class-XII and first 4 Semesters of graduation course/ five-year integrated course, are to be submitted, failing which the application will be liable to be rejected. All the applications should be accompanied by a Letter of Recommendation (LOR) bearing the name, signature, date & rubber stamp/ seal of the Principal/ HOD/ Dean of the Institute where the applicant is studying. In absence of following, the applications are liable to be rejected.a) Scanned attested copies of mark-sheets of Class-X, Class-XII and first 4 Semesters of graduation course/ five-year integrated course.b) Statement of Purposes (SoPs)c) Scanned Recommendation letter/ email by HOD/ Dean/ Principal concerned in the annexed proforma Students who have attended any Internship Programmes organised by NHRC earlier will not be eligible to apply. This is a full-time Internship Programme from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday to Friday). Students must ensure their availability before applying. The student should not be more than 28 years old as on 1st August, 2026. Brief Course Structure of Online Short Term Internship would be - About 30-35 sessions on various human rights issues are proposed to be covered to sensitise the interns. The OSTI will include the following inputs:a) Address/ Interaction with Hon'ble Chairperson and Members of NHRC and other domain Experts including senior Govt. of India Officials.b) Group Project work on Human Right issues.c) Book Review Activityd) Films on Human Rights concerning child and bonded labour issues, Anti Trafficking, Health including mental health and Education issues etc.e) Virtual Field Visit to Jail, Police Station & NGO/ Shelter Homes. In these virtual visits the interns get to see the working of these institutions and may get their related questions addressed. Miscellaneousa) All the student interns successfully completing the internship would receive a stipend of Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only).b) Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates based on their punctuality, discipline, participation in online sessions; timely submission of Group Project Presentation & Project Reports and Book Reviews.c) It is mandatory for interns to attend all the sessions of the internship. Any application of leave will not be entertained. Application for OSTI - September, 2026a) The last date for submission of the application is 19th August, 2026 (18.00 hours).b) Application to be submitted Online using link - Online Short Term Internship available at NHRC's website https://nhrc.nic.in or through NHRC India Mobile App. All the applications should be submitted through these online platforms only.c) The applicants must not use prefixes Mr./ Mrs./ Ms. or any other such prefixes while filling the details in the form.d) If any discrepancy, such as Marks/ CGPA/ Percentage is found in the details given in any application, then the applicant will be barred from future programs of NHRC along with rejection of such application. Please ensure that the application for OSTI is duly filled. Applications submitted otherwise will not be accepted. Incomplete applications/ applications without self-attested copies of mark-sheets (Class-X, Class-XII and first 4 Semesters of graduation course/ five-year integrated course), Letter of Recommendation in prescribed format & SoPs etc. will be rejected and applications sent through emails/ posts will not be entertained. No application will be accepted after the deadline i.e. 19th August, 2026 (18.00 hours). The Final List of Selected Interns will be displayed on the NHRC website.
