IIT (ISM) Dhanbad The Indian School of Mines was formally opened on 9th December 1926, by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India to address the need for trained manpower related to mining activities in the country with disciplines of Mining and Applied Geology. In 1967 it was granted the status of a deemed to be university under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. Since its establishment, IIT (ISM) has undergone considerable expansion of its activities, and presently it can be considered as a total technology education institute. Summer Research Internship Scheme (SRIS) Applications are invited for the Summer Research Internship Scheme (SRIS) – 2026, open to UG and PG students from recognized institutions interested in research across science, engineering, technology, and management. Selected interns will work with faculty mentors on ongoing research projects, gaining exposure to advanced research methodologies. Internship Categories Category I - Summer Research Internship for Undergraduate Students Category II - Summer Research Internship for Postgraduate Students Category III - Long-Term Research Internship for http://B.Tech / http://M.Tech / http://M.Sc / MBA Students Category-I: B. Tech. Summer Research Internship Scheme 2026 Types of Funding Institute funded (3 in each Department, out of which one intern should be from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.) Project funded (As per availability) Self-funded (As per requirement of the Department) Application Timeline: 1st March 2026 to 15th April 2026 Duration: Maximum 2 months (or minimum one month) Application Fee: Rs. 500/- (Non-refundable). Demand draft will not be acceptable. Assessment and Certificate: Interns must give an end-term presentation after completing the internship in front of the review committee. The recommendation of the review committee and the student attendance need to be sent to the Associate Dean (R&D) by the internship guide through e-office for issuing the internship certificate. Review Committee: Head of the Department/Centre, Internship Guide, DUGC Convener. Accommodation: Based on availability. Institute funded Interns will be paid a scholarship of Rs. 5,000/- per month for a maximum period of 2 months. Project-funded Interns will be paid a scholarship (if available) as per the terms & conditions of the funding agency. Category-II: PG Students Summer Research Internship Scheme 2026 Types of Funding Institute funded (3 in each Department, out of which one intern should be from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad) Project funded (As per availability) Self-funded (As per requirement of the Department) However, the PG students getting fellowship will not be entitled to separate monetary support under the Research Internship Scheme. Application Timeline: 1st March 2026 to 15th April 2026. Duration: Maximum two months (or minimum one month) Application Fee: Rs. 500/- (Non-refundable). Demand draft will not be acceptable. Category-III: Long Term Research Internship Scheme (For B.Tech./M.Tech./M.Sc./MBA) Types of Funding Project funded Self-funded (maximum 5 interns in each Department) Application Timeline: 1st March 2026 to 30th April 2026 Duration: 6-12 months Application Fee: Rs. 500/- (Non-Refundable). Demand draft will not be acceptable. Onetime Internship Fee: Tuition fee (on actual) per semester will have to be paid on joining. Assessment and Certificates: Long term interns are required to give a mid-term presentation preferably after 2 months of joining to a review committee. The review committee will give feedback and suggest possible improvements in the work. At the end of the scheme, all the interns must make a presentation of the work carried out to the review committee. The recommendation of the review committee, copy of internship report and the student attendance need to be sent to the Associate Dean (R&D) by the internship guide through e-office for issuing the internship certificate.
