Inter-University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Varanasi is an autonomous apex institution of teacher education under University Grants Commission (UGC). About IUCTE The University Grant Commission (UGC) under section 12 (CCC) has established autonomous institutions for providing services and programs for a group of universities and institutions. The Inter-University Center for Teacher Education (IUCTE) at Varanasi is the most recent edition launched on 25th December 2014 at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), focusing on teacher education. Vision and Mission Vision Nurture a sustainable ecosystem for capacity building in the field of teacher education. Mission To empower and enable teacher educators across the entire spectrum from pre-kindergarten to post-graduate levels to design, develop, and implement learning environments such that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed. Goals To take a leadership role and drive policies to promote best practices in teaching and learning To become a hub centre for innovation, excellence and quality in the field of teacher education Promote scientific practices in teacher education, training, research and development To provide a common platform for developing and sharing resources across various disciplines and domains of teacher education To create opportunities for effective design, development and integration of technology in the teaching-learning ecosystem Establish strategic collaborative partnerships with national and international institutions/organizations/experts to synergize capacity building efforts in teacher education Activities Inter-University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE) at BHU Varanasi will collaborate in the project on Quality Learning in Science & Mathematics of MHRD (renamed as Ministry of Education), which is allocated to NCERT. Academic consultation to formulate research-based in-service teacher education focusing on the leadership role of IUCTE in the area of teacher education has been initiated. A mega research-based training programme of national importance in school education has been undertaken in collaboration with NCERT. The IUCTE is creating a network with all the teacher education institutions in higher education and school education such as Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs), the institution of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) like School of Education, Faculty Development Centre, Teaching Learning Centre, Centre of Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education, Curriculum Devolvement Centres etc. and State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs), Institutes of Advanced Study in Education (IASEs) and Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs). The IUCTE has proposed to hold a meeting with the above intuitions to discuss and collaborate to address the pressing need for teacher education ecosystem in India.
