Established in 2023, Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) is India’s dedicated initiative to empower tribal communities through quality education, training, and access to research. Rooted in the ethos of social justice and inclusive development, the University is named in honour of the revered tribal deities Sammakka and Sarakka, who epitomise courage, valour, resistance, and the unyielding spirit of assertion. Vision To emerge as a premier national institution that empowers tribal and rural communities through inclusive, multidisciplinary, and value-based education; preserves and promotes India’s diverse indigenous knowledge systems; and fosters innovation, sustainability, and social transformation rooted in the spirit of Sammakka and Sarakka. Mission To provide equitable access to quality higher education for students from tribal and rural backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity, social justice, and academic excellence. To promote interdisciplinary research and innovation addressing the educational, cultural, environmental, and developmental needs of tribal and marginalized societies. To preserve, document, and disseminate tribal heritage, languages, arts, and traditional knowledge systems, fostering respect for indigenous wisdom and cultural identity. To build collaborative partnerships with industries, research institutions, and communities for skill development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. To create a vibrant academic ecosystem that nurtures ethical leadership, environmental consciousness, and lifelong learning in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Courses offered Envisioned as a centre of academic distinction and cultural preservation, SSCTU aims to create an ecosystem that nurtures scholarship, innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility. At present, the University offers two undergraduate honours programmes – B.A. (Hons.) in English and B.A. (Hons.) in Economics. Proposals are underway to launch a diverse range of academic programmes, including M.A. in Liberal Studies, M.A. in Development Studies, M.A. in Education, M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a five-year integrated BBA+MBA programme, and B.E. programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from the academic years 2026–27 and 2027–28. Graduate, postgraduate and Doctoral level courses are to be offered under the five schools having 11 departments.
