Sukhatme National Award in Statistics has been instituted by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation to recognize the exceptional/ outstanding contribution made by the individuals in terms of high-quality research work, to improve the system of official statistics. About the Award The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation has instituted a National Award in the memory of Prof. P.V. Sukhatme, a renowned statistician for his outstanding contribution and the distinguished service to the cause of Statistics and its application to agriculture and allied fields. This award is given in alternate years to the senior Indian Statisticians for their Lifetime Contributions and Achievements in the field of Statistics. The first Award was given in the year 2000. This prestigious award is given in alternate years to eminent Indian Statisticians of the age 45 years and above for their Lifetime Contributions and Achievements in the field of Statistics. The Award is presented during Statistics Day function on 29th June. The Award carries a citation, shawl and memento. At this ceremony, the awardee will also be requested to take a session highlighting significance of their work. Eligibility All Indian Nationals without distinction of race, occupation, position and gender are eligible for the award. A nominee/ applicant should be at least 45 years of age as on 31st December of the financial year in which award is announced. For "C.R Rao National Award in Statistics", the nominee/ applicant should be less than 45 years of age as on 31st December of the financial year in which award is announced. Any official and/or his/her family member(s), who was/were part of the selection process of the awardees, will be out of consideration zone of the awards. How to apply Nominations can be submitted online through National Awards Portal The call for applications/nominations is generally during January.
